Academy of New Zealand Literature
The ANZL ‘is a writer-led initiative developed as a platform to support and promote contemporary New Zealand writers.’ Their website has over 100 writer bios, as well as features, including Why Aren’t You Reading Brown?; extended interviews, like this one with Patricia Grace; essays, including a conversation with Kenyan writer Billy Kahora and Robert Sullivan; and round tables with the Ockham NZ Book Awards fiction finalists. The review archive is available at the Aotearoa NZ Review of Books.

Aotearoa New Zealand Review of Books
The ANZRB was launched in 2023: its kaupapa is intelligent long-form reviews for a general readership. The site reviews 8–10 new titles a month across all genres (fiction, nonfiction and poetry), including some titles written for children/YA.
The site also hosts 100+ reviews originally published on the Academy of NZ Literature site.

Kete
‘Kete is an independent website devoted to helping readers discover the latest books in Aotearoa.’ It has a new book review section which covers all genres, as well as information on a wide variety of new titles.
Kete is an initiative of the Coalition for Books, which ran book stands in 2023 at both Te Matatini and the Pasifika Festival. The 2023 Māori and Pasifika Books catalogue can be viewed here.

Landfall Review Online
A website of New Zealand books in review, by Landfall magazine. ‘As well as the reviews included in the two print issues each year, Landfall publishes additional review pages online, each month featuring six to eight reviews.’ David Eggleton is now the LRO’s reviews editor.

Reading Room is the current affairs website Newsroom’s literary section, and is edited by Steve Braunias.
It features news, book reviews, and opinions; and a short story published weekly.
Reading Room runs the annual Surrey Hotel-Newsroom Writer’s Residency.

Wharerangi means storehouse or raised platform, and this is the site’s kaupapa: to provide a packed storehouse of information for Māori writers of fiction, creative nonfiction and poetry, and a platform for our publications—from a one-off story to a full-length book. Each section supplies information and links for opportunities, including places to read contemporary Māori literature and publish new work.
